Fire Blankets

Quickly smother small fires and provide a barrier against heat and flames.

Fire blankets are a simple but essential safety tool – required to comply with AS 3504:2018 – Fire protection equipment and installed/maintained in line with AS 1851-2012 (Section 14, Portable and Mobile Fire Equipment).

ABOUT FIRE BLANKETS

A fire blanket is single use only. Once deployed, it must be replaced (AS 1851-2012, Table 14.4.2).

Use only in the first few seconds of ignition, and only if you feel confident to do so.

The Australian Standards mark on the packaging confirms the blanket meets AS/NZS 3504 approval and is safe for use.

REMEMBER TO:

  • Keep fire blankets accessible in the kitchen and away from the stove.
  • The Australian Standard symbol on the packaging shows if the equipment is approved and safe to use.

The effectiveness of a fire blanket depends on its strategic placement and accessibility:

Install in high-risk areas such as kitchens, workshops, laboratories, or near electrical equipment (AS 2444:2001, Clause 4.2).

If it is not obstructed by furniture, equipment, or other items.

Should be located on an exit pathway

Display clear, visible signage in accordance with AS 2444:2001, Clause 8.3.
